Angela Rayner House

Labour’s deputy leader Angela Rayner avoids police action over former living arrangements

No further action over past council house sale

Greater Manchester Police will not be taking action against Labour’s deputy leader Angela Rayner over her past council house sale, following a review of the case.

The row centred on Ms Rayner’s primary address ten years ago. Ms Rayner said it was an ex-council house she used to own on Vicarage Road, Stockport. However, it was later revealed that the property had been transferred to her mother’s ownership in 2010, before being sold in 2015.

There was some confusion about whether Ms Rayner had paid the right amount of tax on the sale of the property, which she has denied. The Greater Manchester Police has now confirmed that no further action will be taken against Ms Rayner.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “We have reviewed the information and it has been made clear no criminal offences have been committed. Therefore, no further action will be taken.”

Ms Rayner said she was “pleased” with the outcome of the review.

“I have always said that I have acted within the law and I am pleased that the police have confirmed this,” she said.

“I am now looking forward to putting this behind me and continuing to focus on my work as deputy leader of the Labour Party.”

Conclusion

The decision by Greater Manchester Police to take no further action against Ms Rayner is a significant development in this case. It brings to an end months of speculation and uncertainty about her former living arrangements. Ms Rayner can now move on from this episode and continue to focus on her work as deputy leader of the Labour Party.
