Game 7 Stanley Cup

Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final: Panthers Capture First Championship

The Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 Monday night in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final, giving the Panthers a 4-3 series win and their first championship in franchise history.

It's a rarity to see a home arena invaded by visiting fans in the Stanley Cup Final, let alone in a Game 7. But Oilers fans traveled in droves and made their presence felt at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida.

The Oilers had a chance to win the Stanley Cup in Game 6 at home, but the Panthers forced a Game 7 with a 5-1 victory in Edmonton.

In Game 7, the Panthers took an early lead and never looked back. Sam Reinhart scored a power-play goal in the first period, and Carter Verhaeghe added another in the second period to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

The Oilers finally got on the board with a goal from Connor McDavid in the third period, but it was too little, too late. The Panthers held on for the 2-1 victory, sending the Oilers home empty-handed and sparking a wild celebration on the ice and in the stands.

The Panthers' victory is a culmination of years of hard work and dedication. The team has been through some tough times in recent years, but they never gave up on their dream of winning the Stanley Cup.

Tonight, that dream became a reality.
